Picture Atlantic Song Meanings - White Knight

Listen: White Knight by Picture Atlantic

I never said I was a white knight, but I never said I was proud of my black knight deeds
I never said I was a wise man, but I never said I wasn’t somewhere in between
I’m getting tired of complexity. I need a bit of simplicity, don’t you think?

On and on, it carries on
Everyone has gone insane

I never said I was a white knight, but I never said I was proud of my black knight deeds
I never said I was a wise man, but I never said I wasn’t somewhere in between
This isn’t fishing for sympathy, I’d like a break. Can you humor me? Let me think
I need a bit of simplicity. I’m getting tired of going around and around again.

On and on, it’s carries on and on
Everyone has gone insane
I was wrong, I was wrong
It was you all along
I won’t fall into your game

I wrote this song after realizing that sometimes, even though it takes two to tango, the other person is doing the majority of the dancing, so to speak. In fact I sort of don’t like that saying because it implies that it’s always equally both people’s faults in an altercation. This came around that moment where all your friends start saying, “You know man, it wasn’t nearly as much you, as it was that other person.” No one is perfect, either, so I touched on the idea of holding others to insanely high obligations and standards. There was a lot of that flying around for a while, so it’s kind of like me saying, “I’m not claiming to be Jesus, but I’m not a total waste!” - Nik
