How convenient that my post today lands right on New Years! It’s almost a move of fate…or something. My intentions were to come up with a last Monday post for this year and then kind of externally process about 2012 and see how long you could all keep up with reading such a long post!
This past year has really, really, been something else. Every year, I could say “so much has happened!”, but that would pretty obvious. Instead I will say “a lot of very significant things have happened this year”. And that feels better than anything.
This band has really meant so much to us in PA for such a long time now. When the band was started in 2006, we set out with a very specific goal, and somehow I believe this year we achieved it. Strangely when we started, we were trying to get to D, by going from A to C. But we’ve managed to get to some kind of strange letter of the alphabet, right in-between D and E. When PA started, it was a kind of knee jerk reaction to all the Hardcore music going on in the San Jose music scene. We set out to create our own thing, as much as we could, and that has really been our philosophy all along. This year has been the year of “doing our own thing” to the max, and we haven’t let anything stop us or hinder us in that.
The thing I am the most proud of is that we didn’t compromise. We didn’t do anything to appease anyone else. We didn’t do anything that wasn’t us, to get more people to like our songs. We stayed true to ourselves, and did what we loved and were passionate about. Some of you have hopped on for the ride, and joined us in this wild thing called Picture Atlantic, and that feels amazing. To all of you out there who have, are, and will support us, we want to say an immense Thank you. 2012 has been a big year for us, and you helped make it such a great time
. We toured a lot, put out our second full length album, made amazing friends, filmed music videos, and in the process grew as a group of strange dudes who love music.
Our 2013 is looking just as exciting, and we have some aces up our sleeves for next year. We are looking forward to being busy, and having you all along for the trip!
Much love from Picture Atlantic,
- Nik, Brian, Daniel, & Ryan
